From the series Pornography (2002)
Pornography, as Édouard Levé’s 2002 photographic series and performance piece of the same name appear to demonstrate, is about exposure. Yet, the participants staged in these tableaux of cliché pornographic scenarios are fully clothed, leading the viewer to do the mental undressing. What Levé strips them of, is any specificity: they become uncanny archetypes through the clinical coldness of the settings, inexpressive or obscured faces, geometric positioning, and blandness of the clothing and furniture.
