World Press Photo Award
US photojournalist John Stanmeyer has won first prize in the 2014 World Press Photo awards for a moonlit image of African migrants in Djibouti trying to capture a faint signal that provides a fragile link to relatives in Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
"It’s just people trying to call loved ones. It could be you, it could be me, it could be any one of us," said Mr Stanmeyer.
Refraining from the usual themes of war, poverty or violence, the image touches on universal themes of migration, technology and globalization, Stanmeyer explained.
